LTU's College of Architecture and Design hosted another innovative Design x Technology Lunch and Learn presentation with Frank Melendez.

This lecture is part of Lawrence Technological University's CoAD Lunch + Learn lecture series. LTU CoAD's Lunch + Learn lecture series is free and open to the public.

About Frank:Frank Melendez is an architectural designer, educator, and researcher. He is a partner at Augmented Architectures and bioMATTERS, LLC, based in New York City and London, and teaches at the Spitzer School of Architecture, City College of New York. His practice, teaching, and research focus on the advancement of architectural design through the integration of emerging digital technologies within the built environment. This work engages topics pertaining to architectural drawing, computation, ecology, biomaterials, digital fabrication, physical computing, and robotics. Frank is the author of Drawing from the Model (Wiley, 2019) and co-editor of Data, Matter, Design (Routledge, 2020). His work has been exhibited internationally at various venues including Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2019, London Design Festival / Open Cell 2019, GAA Foundation 2018, and Reshape FORUM Wearable Technology 2018. He has curated and organized symposia and exhibitions including DATA & MATTER, Palazzo Bembo, Venice, Italy, 2019, Material Interactions, City College of New York, New York, NY, 2017, and Eliciting Environments / Actuating Response, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, 2014.

He has been supported through grants, fellowships, and memberships including the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)/ Van Alen Institute, MacDowell, and NEW INC. Prior to his appointment at CCNY, Frank held academic appointments at Carnegie Mellon University, Louisiana State University, and Arizona State University and has co-directed the Institute for Advanced Architecture Catalonia (IaaC) New York Global Summer School. His professional practice experience includes working at Frank O. Gehry & Associates and Urban A&O. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Arizona and a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University.
