Jim Kerns

Faculty Advisor

Robotics Engineering | Instructor. After nearly 36 years at Ford Motor Company, I joined Lawrence Tech to lead the new robotics engineering laboratory. During my career at Ford, I worked primarily on powertrain controls – spanning the transition from mechanical systems to modern computer controls. I have been awarded nearly 100 U.S. patents covering various control system and diagnostic inventions.

Lee Carney

Founder

Mechanical Engineering | Senior. I work for the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center in PLE Materials and CSI Prototype Integration and Fabrication from (2017-Present). I was awarded the Department of Defense SMART Scholarship in Spring 2018. This is my third competition team I’ve participated on at Lawrence Tech. In my free time I enjoy scuba diving, skiing, and working on/riding my stand up jet ski.

Jordan Klebba

Mechanical Engineering | Senior. I currently work for ADVICS - North America in Control System Engineering (2016-present). This is my second competition team I have participated on at Lawrence Tech. My hobbies include swimming, kayaking, and biking.

Adam Copp

Founder

Mechanical Engineering | Senior. I work at FEV Automotive as a Project Engineer Assistant, helping test transmission and drivetrain components for various EV and gas vehicles. This is my second team I’ve participated on. In my spare time I enjoy woodworking and camping.

Benjamin Lenze

Mechanical Engineering | Junior. I’m currently working at Yazaki North America in the Power Distribution Division as a Mechanical Engineering co-op. This is my second competition team I’ve participated on at Lawrence Tech. In my free time I enjoy mountain biking and robotics.

Jason Klebba

Mechanical Engineering | Sophomore. I currently work for Mubea in the TRB (Tailor Rolled Blanks) department as a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op. In my free time I enjoy fishing, kayaking, and volleyball.

Jacob Yaldoo

Robotics Engineering | Sophomore. I currently work for Tecla Products in Walled Lake. My job involves manufacturing in their Resco Department. In my free time I enjoy robotics and woodworking.

Brett Carney

Mechanical Engineering | Freshman. I’m currently working for State Farm Insurance and for the last three years I have been focused on marketing and customer service. In my free time I enjoy skiing, scuba diving, and mountain biking.

Andres Bastidas

Transportation Design | Senior. I am an international student from Colombia, passionate about all things art and design. Last summer I interned at Volkswagen's Future Center - California in Silicon Valley, where I worked on advanced mobility solutions for the Volkswagen Group. Currently, I work at KISKA, a design firm in Austria, known for their work on KTM and Husqvarna Motorcycles, as well as select work for brands like Adidas, Ottobock, Audi, Volkswagen, Opel, and even Ferrari.
