For decades, LTU has been on the cutting edge of transportation infrastructure research. 

Nabil Grace is the founding director of the Dr. Nabil Grace Center for Innovative Materials research (CIMR) at LTU and internationally noted for using carbon fiber to design the 100-year-bridge.

Elin Jensen has worked on a number of MDOT sponsored projects, serving as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on several. Project topics included durability of concrete structures and concrete material, performance of jointed concrete pavement, behavior of side-by-side box beam bridges, recycled materials for subgrade stabilization. 

Edmund Yuen is on the LTU faculty and an active engineering consultant with expertise in environmental and water resources engineering. In 2007, the Chrysler Corp honored him with its Environmental Leadership Award.

Director Nishantha Bandara brings his experience working on pavement design, evaluation and maintenance for funding agencies ranging from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to the Asian Development Bank.
