The year 2022 marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of Lawrence Technological University; in fact, the Lawrence Institute of Technology opened with the first class of several hundred students on September 6, 1932.
It was hardly a promising time to launch a new enterprise; during what historians generally agree were the bleakest months of the worst economic year of the Great Depression, LTU founder Russell Lawrence, supported by close members of his family and a band of determined faculty, bravely faced the future.
Russell’s rare formula included evening classes for working students and a hands-on, real-world education that combined both theory and practice. As luck would have it, it didn’t take long for the formula to capture the imagination of hundreds, and then thousands more.
In the 90 years since, nearly 41,000 men and women have graduated from Lawrence Tech. We’re proud that so many have achieved so much success in their professions and communities. Over the years, companies and organizations led by our alumni have provided a livelihood for millions of people both in this country and abroad.
Previous campaigns celebrated the university’s storied past while funding the capital and academic needs to support increasing enrollment and advancing technologies. As we look towards our next major campaign, we continue to emphasize LTU’s impact on our communities—locally, nationally, and around the globe—and explore new ways our students, our alums, and the LTU community can make a difference.
Your support is crucial to our success. I invite you to explore our website to learn more about how your investment today will help us address both the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. Together, we can build on the legacy of Russell Lawrence and honor his vision for this great institution.
