Mechanics of Composites

College of Engineering
MECH

This course covers composites and their characteristics using matrix materials combined with reinforcing fibers in order to control stiffness and strength for specific performance criteria. The emphasis will be on different mechanics of materials averaging methods, such as homogenization and rule of mixture; micro-mechanics of a lamina; lamination and stacking; macro-mechanics of laminated composites; mechanics of composite structures like rods, beams and plates; advanced concepts in composites' stiffness and strength characterization and their limits; overview of common manufacturing and processing methods.
