This course expands the scope of traditional monomodal literacy practices—those based only in the written word—to consider how multimodal literacy practices—those based in multiple modes, including linguistic, visual, spatial, gestural, and aural—enable communicators to best engage in meaning-making across a variety of social and cultural contexts. Students will engage with theoretical texts on the subject of visual rhetoric and multimodal composition in order to consider the rhetorical and cultural dimensions of composing in contemporary society. Students will also practice composing across contexts, modes, and technologies in order to investigate, analyze, and critically reflect upon the rhetor
