The course covers basic principles of hypothesis formulation and testing, statistical design of experiments and proper selection of laboratory instrumentation, techniques and methodologies, the development of experimental protocols that involve animal and human subjects, biosafety issues and the review processes for protocol submission. Specific examples are derived from areas of biomedical engineering research relevant to the students' project or thesis topic and may involve a diverse range of instrumentation and methodologies including electrophysiology, microscopy, imaging, material testing, gait analysis, fluid testing, computer simulation, etc.
